Patreon, the prominent membership platform connecting creators with their paying fans, has announced a substantial layoff of 93 employees, representing 20% of its total workforce. This marks the company's largest staff reduction since September 2022, when it cut 17% of its employees. CEO Jack Conte communicated the "painful" decision in memos to both staff and creators, emphasizing that the company's core business remains "healthy and strong" but requires adjustments to its cost structure to ensure long-term stability.
The layoffs are part of a strategic restructuring aimed at "flattening the organization, refocusing teams on our top priorities, and evolving key aspects of our operations to make us faster at adapting to change." This move comes as the market in which Patreon operates has undergone "profound change over the last 6 months."
