Beijing-based artificial intelligence startup Moonshot AI has introduced Kimi K3.1 Pro, an upgraded reasoning model boasting a 1-million-token context window and nearly three trillion parameters. The launch directly targets developer workflows and enterprise automation, offering an OpenAI-compatible application programming interface alongside a companion variant called Kimi K3.1 Pro Highspeed that executes queries two to three times faster. The release arrives at a pivotal geopolitical moment, as open-weight architectures increasingly challenge the performance benchmarks held by proprietary American flagships[4].
While the model is currently accessible through hosted web tools, development interfaces, and API endpoints, Moonshot pledged to make the full model weights freely downloadable by November 4. In doing so, the lab took the unusual step of openly acknowledging that it purged cybersecurity exploit data and offensive hacking training sets from the model before distribution. The decision underscores escalating scrutiny surrounding dual-use software, autonomous coding agents, and the irreversible nature of open-weight artificial intelligence.
